Artist Anonymous
Artists Anonymous arose from the need of graduates of the Eastern Institute of Technology who wanted to find a place to continue their artistic practice. In 2002, having completed their studies, a group of students negotiated use of the previous „bus shed‟ at the Waiohiki Creative Arts Village and in May 2003 with advice and support from Jenny Weichbrodt, incorporated themselves as Artists Anonymous Charitable Society.
The Mission Statement for the group is “to encourage, promote, and support all forms of visual arts in Hawke‟s Bay”. At this point the group is comprised of graduates from the EIT Visual Arts and Design programme, the Learning Connexion Diploma in Arts and Creativity, and other self taught artists and artisans.
Past and present members have contributed to many local community and arts projects including Mataariki/ Winter Solstice celebrations.
Artists Anonymous is now 4 years old but still a young group.
Future plans include creation of more space at the arts village so as to allow more young artists and craftspeople access to quality but inexpensive studio space in which to create artwork, increasing membership, and increasing the resource base. AA aims to provide benefits for as many young and emerging artists as possible. The ultimate aim is to create opportunities for our members to pursue viable careers in the visual arts and creative sector.
