The arts village is located near Taradale on State Highway 50,  adjacent to the

Napier Golf Course.

Outside the village stand a number of unusual looking pou,
symbolising the eclectic mix of art and craft, traditional and  contemporary, Maori
and Pakeha culture, which is at its heart. Within this rustic setting  are
workshops, studios and accommodation for a diverse group of artists  and
artisans, who work alongside one another in the spirit of mutual  respect and cooperation.

The Art Village has been operating since 1989.
